Piperacillin 4gm + Tazobactam 0.5gm (Piperacillin and Tazobactam 4.5gm)
Description
Piperacillin is an effective and well tolerated initial empirical treatment for febrile neutropenic patients. Extended infusion of Piperacillin + Tazobactam is the most effective method of administration for patients with nosocomial infections. Tazobactam prevents the degradation of piperacillin by bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes.
Indications
Appendicitis, Peritonitis, Cutaneous abscess, Cellulitis, Pelvic inflammatory disease, Febrile neutropenia
Dosage
As directed by the physician. Usually 4.5gm every 6-8 hours IV infusion.
Side Effects
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, skin rash, elevated liver enzymes.
Precautions
Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy. Monitor renal function.
